Two suspected bike lifters held after `encounter`

KARACHI: Personnel of the Anti-Vehicles Lifting Cell (AVLC) claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two members of an inter-provincial gang of bike lifters after an encounter at Northern Bypass, Hub River Road.
The injured suspects were identified as Aslam alias Malangi, 36, and Salman alias Shamraiz, 26. Police have recovered two pistols and one stolen motorbike from their custody.
AVLC SSP Mohammed Tariq Nawaz described the injured suspects as members of the inter-provincial gang.
He said the encounter took place during checking carried out to control snatching/stealing of two-wheelers.
Involved in several incidents of bike snatching and stealing from the metropolis, they had been arrested and sent to the prison twice in the past, he added.
Aslam was wanted in five cases registered at different police stations in the city.The bike recovered from their custody was lifted from Sir Syed Town.

Korangi Industrial Area police said Taufiq Mohammed was shifted to the JPMC after he was shot during a robbery resistance near Godaam Chowrangi.
Meanwhile, Three minor children were among four people injured on Tuesday evening in Orangi Town when the roof of their house collapsed due to moderate to heavy rain which continued on the second consecutive day in the metropolis.
An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said the roof of a house near Aziz Millat School, Orangi Town-13, collapsed.
The injured were identified as one-year-old Shahrukh, two-year-old Fahad, three-year-old Faiz and 25-year-old Sarwar. All the four injured were shifted to the nearby Sindh Government Qatar Hospital.
