2013-10-14
LAHORE, Oct 13: Pakistan Railways Police Inspector General Ibne Hussain has said that a latest communication and tracking system is being installed to monitor PR track and trains across the country for security.
Talking to APP, he said the PR police had been assigned the responsibility to operate the new tracking system, adding that the IT department monitored it earlier.
He said the new tracking system would be linked with a satellite instead of towers with the cooperation of National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). `It will be helpful in rescue operations and monitoring,` he added.
He said latest equipment, including cameras and other security devices, would be installed at railway stations with the help of the NRTC to provide better security to passengers.
The IG said latest weapons, including guns, telescopic rifles and night vision telescopes were being purchased from Pakistan Ordinance Factory, Wah, and an amount of Rs 21 million had been approved for it.
`The weapons will be received within two to three months,` he added.
To a question about recovery of PR land fromland grabbers, the IG said about 3,000 acres out of 5,000 acres of encroached commercial, agriculture and non-commercial land had been retrieved during the last two years.
He said 13 railway stations, including Lahore, Peshawer, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Karachi, Multan, Sukkar and Gujranwala, had been declared high security zones and a latest invisible security and communication system would soon be installed at the stations, adding that an NRTC team would soon visit Lahore to install equipment as a pilot project.
To another question about security threats on Eidul Azha, he said there were security threats in Balochistan and Sindh and they had increased security in trains and on tracks.
He said the number of policemen in trains in Balochistan had been increased to 10 while four security men travelled in other areas of the country.
Answering a question, he said the government had given them a free hand to combat corruption, crime and terrorists and the minister or other political leaders did not interfere in police matters. APP
