2013-10-14
LAHORE, Oct 13: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has started construction of a new dual carriageway link road from LOS Ferozepur Road to Multan Road ending near Samanabad Morr to reduce travel time to Motorway M2 and Ring Road.
Contract of the construction was granted through an open tender to a private construction company, while LDA and National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) would supervise the project costing around Rs1.8 billion.
Under the project, the existing 4km road alongside the Samanabad Nullah to Gulshan-i-Ravi would be rehabilitated and widened to 60 feet consisting three lanes from each side.
The construction would be completed within six months and help ease traffic flow for over 50,000 vehicles daily besides reducing travelling time from Ferozepur Road to Motorway M2 Babu Sabu Interchange.
In the first phase, LDA demolished illegal constructions from the LOS side of the road while it would launch an operation later this month on Multan Road in Poonch House Colony where dozens of illegal houses had been constructed.
LDA officials said the antiencroachments operation would be launched soon and construction would be completed within the stipulated time.
He said all government departments concerned, including gas, Wasa, Lesco and telephone, had started shifting their infrastructure from the site after which the construction would start.
