LAHORE: A private university student was shot dead in Nawab Town on Tuesday.

Police said 24-year-old Uzair Khan came under fire in Ali Town by suspect identified as Amjad Gujjar. He suffered bullet injures and was taken to Jinnah Hospital where he could not survive.

Police shifted the body to morgue for medico-legal examination and registered a case.

Chuhng Assistant Superintendent of Police Irfan Samoon said police arrested Gujjar, who according to initial investigation, resorted to firing under the influence.

He said the deceased was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

ARESTED:Policeclaimed on Tuesday to have arrested 55 suspects and seized 34 rifles and bullets in the last two weeks under the National Action Plan (NAP).

According to a press release, SSP Investigation Rana Ayaz Saleem constituted special teams in Badami Bagh, Shahdara Town, Naulakha, Masti Gate, Tibbi City, Data Darbar, Islampura, Sanda, Wahdat Colony, Nawan Kot, Ravi Road, Gowalmandi, Lorry Adda, Shafiqabad, Old Anarkali, Kot Lakhpat, Gaziaabad and Hadiara which arrested 55 suspects and recovered 34 Kalashnikovs and other kinds of rifles worth Rs4 million from their possession.
