Probe sought into misuse of quake survivors` funds

MANSEHRA: The Torghar district council on Friday adopted a resolution demanding of the provincial government to hold an inquiry into the misappropriation of Rs210 million funds meant for the survivors of the 2015 earthquake in the area.

`The Rs210 million funds were approved for the financial assistance of 6,000 families affected by the2005earthquakebuttheyhave been misappropriated.

We want the provincial government to hold an inquiry to this corruption to punish the culpable people,` councillor Sahib Anwar said before tabling a resolution in the council, which met with convener Said Nawab Gul in the chair.

The house passed resolutions seeking the disqualification of its three members over prolonged absence. Mr Nawab said the Pakistan Red Crescent Society was tasked by the government with paying a grant of Rs35,000 to each qual(e survivor.

District nazim Dilroz Khan, who was also in attendance, said theElection Commission of Pakistan should disqualify three councillors for remaining absent from five sessions of the council consecutively without informing the convener.

`We will dispatch a copy of this resolution to the Election Commission of Pakistan for disqualification of the three councillors, including former nazim Noor Mohammad,` he said.

The nazim also asked the deputy commissioner of Torghar to recover Rs1.5 million allegedly claimed by the former nazim for the repairs of his private car, which was damaged in an accident in Punjab.

WORK ON GRID STATION STARTS: Religious affairs minister Sardar Mohammad Yousuf on Friday inaugurated work on the Rs336 million 132KV grid station in Garhi Habibullah.

`This grid station will address power outages and low voltages in Garhi Habibullah and its suburbs,` the minister told the inaugural ceremony. -Correspondent
