Five injured as security guard`s gun goes off

KASUR: Five passersby, including a woman and minor student, suffered gunshot wounds as the gun of a security guard went off outside a private currency exchange branch on the Railway Road on Friday.

The incident happened near the shrine of Bulleh Shah in the limits of A-Division Police Station.

The gun of security guard, Sabir Ali, went off, creating panic on one of the busiest roads of the city. As a result, the passers-by, including Abida Bibi, Momal Masih, Ghulam Qadir, Bagh Ali and nine-year-old student Ibrahim who was returning from school, sustained wounds.

Responding to a call, the Rescue 1122 officials rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the DHQ Hospital.

EGG DAY: The Department of PoultryProduction of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), in collaboration with poultry farms, observed `World Egg Day` with the theme of `Eggs for A Healthy Future` on the Ravi Campus, Pattoki.

Various activities, including a seminar, a walk, informative video about egg nutrition, singing performance by students of special education school, egg eating and cooking competitions, were held to create awareness among the public about the nutritional value of the egg and its importance for growth of the human body.

Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) North Zone Chairman Ch Muhammad Nusrat Tahir presided over the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, Nusrat Tahir said the PPA would restart the school meal programme to curb malnutrition issues in the students byproviding them with an egg and a drum stick in their classrooms on a regular basis.

Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said students should play their vital role to create awareness among the public through social media to negate all kinds of misconception (hormones & steroids used in poultry feed) associated with poultry meat and eggs.

Prof Dr Saima and Dr Shahid Mahmood also spoke.

At the end of the seminar, Prof Nasim along with Dr Saima, Tahir Jatthol and Dr Shahid Mahmood distributed cash prizes among the winners of competitions.

The UVAS VC inaugurated the boys hostel at the Ravi Campus Pattoki.

The newly-established Pasha Hall comprised 36 rooms for residence of 100 students.

This project was completed in two years at a cost of Rs68.3m.
