KMU to expedite work on planned campus in Kabul

PESHAWAR: The administration of Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has decided to speed up work on establishment of the proposed campus in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The decided was made during meeting of between a high-level Afghan delegation and KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq.

The Afghan delegation was led by Dr Nazar Mohammad, the director of foreign affairs ofIslamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Other members of the delegation included Dr Rafiullah Atta, the vice-chancellor of Afghanistan International Islamic University Kabul, Dr Nisar Ahmad Zahid, the dean of agriculture faculty of the university, Dr Abdullah, dean of engineering faculty, and Hafiz Samiul Haq, coordinator of higher education department of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The registrar of KMU,Inamullah Khan Wazir, the director academics, Dr Zilli Huma, Prof Lal Mohammad Khattak, the focal person for Kabul campus of KMU, and Mohammad Tayyab, the deputy director of affiliation and monitoring, also attended the meeting.

The members of visiting delegation said that peace was restored in Afghanistan after a long war and all their attentionwas focused on development of the country.

`We need to get cooperation from international community as well as close neighbours like Pakistan,` they said. They said that their priority was education, public health facilities, infrastructures and employment opportunities.

They said that Pakistan had always helped its Afghan brothers in every difficult hour and theobjective of their visit was to seek cooperation and assistance from KMU.

The members of the delegation said that Afghanistan needed assistance of experts in medicines, public health, engineering and agriculture. They said that being the sole medical university in the province, KMU could guide and help them in various fields of medical education.-Bureau Report
