Bureaucrats seek implementation of court orders on promotions

2014-11-14
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to the establishment secretary and principle secretary to the prime minister in a petition filed by some senior bureaucrats. They approached the court with the plea that despite court orders the prime minister has not promoted them.

Petitioners` counsel Asma Jahangir argued before the IHC Chief Justice Mohammad Anwar Khan Kasi that a high court bench in July 2014 had restrained the federal government from halting promotions of the bureaucrats.

High Court had directed the government to promote senior bureaucrats in the light of central selection board (CSB) recommendations but the decision has remained unimplemented.

CSB in February 2014 had recommended 44 bureaucrats from district management group, 11 from police service 12 from Foreign Service for promotions.

The prime minister had directed to further review the promotion cases of 18 officers from district management group, five from police service and four from Foreign Service.

The petitioner filed a contempt of court petition before the IHC saying that the federal government did not implement the high court orders.

IHC Chief Justice Kasi sought a reply from the principal secretary to the prime minister and secretary establishment within a week and adjourned till further hearing of the petition. Staff Reporter
