CHAKWAL: An illegal protein manufacturing plant located at Neelah Road near Maingan village was sealed by the authorities on Thursday.
The plant was wreaking havoc upon environment and on the lives of the natives of surrounding villages.
On the direction of District Coordination Officer (DCO) Asif Bilal Lodhi, a joint team led by assistant commissioner Mussawar Ahmed Khan Niazi raided the plant and found cans of oil extracted from the intestines of chickens.
The officials also found other stinky material which was described as protein by the two labourers of the plant.
The officials also visited the roof of the plant where they found a heap of deadchickens. The chickens that died at poultry farms were brought to this plant.
The team confiscated the cans of oil and so-called protein besides arresting the two labourers. After the raid the authorities sealed the plant.
Remains of slaughtered chickens were brought to `Mushahdi Protein Manufacturing Unit`, from which a substance claimed to be protein was made.
This substance was then supplied to factories manufacturing chicken feed.
`The bad smell from the plant is very hazardous for the residents of adjoining areas, besides affecting the environment,` EDO Health Dr. Ayub Sadiq said while talking to reporters. Correspondent
