Farmers asked to use quality seed for higher yield

KOHAT: Agricultural experts advised farmers on Monday to use good quality seeds of wheat, maize, vegetables and fruits to achieve 5 to 20 per cent extra yield.

They stressed that sowing at the right time, use of pesticides and watering could also prove useful.

They were speaking at a workshop held here. A large number of farmers were in attendance.

Principal of Tarnab Agricultural Research Institute, Peshawar, Dr Mirza Hassan and manager a seed company advised the farmers not to compromise on the quality of seeds, which was the first step towards a good harvest.

They stressed the farmers could also get extra income through fodder for their cattle, and hay for constructions if they got a good crop.

They gave the example of a small country like Ukraine, which was the biggest exporter of wheat.

Meanwhile, a young man was found dead in the Sawa Lakh graveyard here on Monday.The city police SHO Vaqar said they received information that a body was lying in the graveyard, which they took to KDA Teaching Hospital. for autopsy.

He said the boy`s father,Tariq, claimed that former general secretary of ANP, Kashif Bokhari, who was his close relative, had come to their house on Sunday night and took his son, Azeefa, with him, but he didn`t return.

The SHO said the complainant nominated Kashif, and paramedics` body president Rashid Bokhari in the murder case.

He said the police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.

Separately, deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir has constituted a high-level committee to ensure a transparent and peaceful conduct of MDCAT test for admissions to medical colleges.

The directives came at a meeting held here on Monday and attended by additional deputy commissioner, general, Shehryar Qamar, medical superintendents of KDA and Liaquat Memorial Hospitals, principal of Kohat Institute of Medical Sciences, and SP investigations Jameelur Rehman.
