THE manufacturing of windmill turbines in Pakistan still remains a distant dream, whereas the country is blessed with ample resources to harvest wind energy. In the coastal belt of Pakistan, there are windcorridors 60km wide (Gharo-Keti Bander) and 180km long up to Hyderabad.
This corridorhas a potentialof50,000 MW. In order to tap this energy, entities like Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC) and many others should be directed to manufacture windmill turbines for the wind farms that should be set up all along the Sindh and Balochistan coastal belt.
Transfer of Technology agreements with countries already exploiting wind energy should be signed to generate five pc of total national generation by 2030 or earlier.
