KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead in the Landhi area on Wednesday, officials said.

Sharafi Goth SHO Mehboob Illahi said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammed Asif was passing through a street near his home in Mohammed Nagar, Landhi-89, when some armed men opened fire on him and fled.

He suffered multiple bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors declared him dead.

The victim was posted at Madadgar-15 in Sharafi Goth.

The SHO said it appeared that the victim had some old enmity with someone as last year he was nominated in a case pertaining to the murder of a man over a matrimonial dispute. The case was pending trial before a Malir court, he added.

Man bludgeoned to death A young man was killed in the Bin Qasim area on Wednesday.

Area police officer Mohammed Mithal Bhurgari said that the victim, Mohammed Sharif Bugti, 28, was passing through a factory when unidentified persons attacked and killed him with hard and blunt instruments.

He said the victim was a labourer. It appeared that he was targeted over some old enmity, he opined.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination.
