MUZ A F FA R GA R H : Women rights activist Mukhran Mai has written a letter to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif with a plea to provide security to her school in Mirwala or sanction necessary funds to hire guards.
She said the Mukhtar Mai Girls Model School was set up in 2002 and it was the first school set up in highly underprivileged area of Mirwala. It was presently providing education to 571 girls at the primary, secondary and high school levels. It was also providing education to 429 boys at the primary level.
A total of 30 girls had done matriculation throughthis school, she said.
She said the school was being managed with limited Enancial resources.
The school provided free education besides free uniform, books and even transport.
She said in view of the recent security situation in the country, local education officials had advised the school to install a walkthrough gate, raise the height of the boundary wall to eight feet, install CCTV cameras, hire trained guards, affix safety grills over the walls and place barriers outside the main gate.
She also requested the CM to order registration of her school with the Punjab Education Foundation and give laptops to students.
