LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Sunday attended a session of the two-day ThinkFest where a book entitled `Upholding the rule of law and history of the LHC` was launched.
On the occasion, he said the idea behind the book was to inform people as to how the justice system worked and the justice was administered.
He said the couns served as a powerful protective shield for the public, helping them secure their fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
Contradicting the perception that the courts were not delivering, he said the LHC and the district courts decided 200,000 and 2.2 million cases last year, respectively.
He said according to the latest census, there was just one LHC judge for 1.8 million people, and one for 62,000 people in every district. Therefore, he said, there was a need to employ more judges to cope with the situation.
Dilating upon different aspects of the LHC and its structure, he briefly introduced the book, saying he wrote its last chapter that looked forward.
The book mentions the LHC history, the bar and bench relations, and the landmark judgments. He gave details of the LHC building`s design saying it reflected a hybrid architecture featuring different religions.
Justice Yawar Ali of the LHC, Dr Yaqoob Bangash, Faqir Syed Aijazuddin and Advocate Saad Rasool also spoke on the occasion. Staff Reporter
