Bank deposits increase by 3.32pc

ACCORDING to the > weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended December 29, 2017 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,361.806 billion after a 3.32 per cent increase over the preceding week`s figure of Rs11,964.134bn. Compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs11,202.886bn, the current week`s figure was higher by 10.34pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banksstoodatRs12,281.221bn against preceding week`s deposits of Rs11,884.263bn, showing a rise of 3.34pc.
Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs80.585bn, higher by 0.89pc against previous week`s figure of Rs79.871bn.
Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs17,593.975bn, higher by 3.70pc over preceding week`s figure of Rs16,968.144bn.
Current week`s figure is higher by16.40pc compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs15,116.395bn.
Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs17,300.741bn, higher by 3.71pc over previous week`s figure of Rs16,682.124bn, while total assets of specialisedbanks at Rs293.235bn were higher 2.52pc over the previous week`s Rs.286.020bn.
Gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,529.968bn, higher by 2.83pc over the preceding week`sfigureofRs6,350.315bn.
Compared with last year`s corresponding figure of Rs5,571.985bn, current week`s figure is higher by 17.20pc.
Advances by all commercial banks increased to Rs6,357.903bn from previous week`s Rs6,178.430bn indicating a rise of 2.90pc, whereas advances of specialised banks stood at Rs172.065bn against previous week`s Rs171.885bn.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks increased in the week under review. It rose by 7.25pc to Rs3,005.546bn against previous week`s Rs2,802.466bn. Compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs1,839.203bn, current week`s figure is higher by 63.41pc.
Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,889.998bn were higher by 7.35pc against previous week`s Rs2,692.120bn.
Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs115.548bn against the previous week`s figure of Rs110.346bn.
Investments of all scheduledbanks stood at Rs8,541.521bn against preceding week`s figure of Rs8,308.474bn, higher by 2.80pc.
Compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs7,233.328bn, current week`s figure is higher by 18.08pc.
Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs8,460.687bn, higher by 2.82pc against preceding week`s figure of Rs8,228.417bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs.80.834bn against preceding week`s figure of Rs80.057bn.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks increased over the week and stood at Rs.1,203.504bn against previous week`s Rs956.313bn, showing a rise of 25.85pc.
Current week`s figure increased by 10.60pc compared to last year`s corresponding figure of Rs1,088.191bn.
Cash and balances of all commercial banks stood at Rs1,197.616bn, higher by 25.80pc over previous week`s Rs951.940bn.
Cash and balances of all specialised banks were higher by 34.61pc at Rs5.888bn against the preceding week`s Rs4.374bn.
