Women hold key positions in PU`s behavioral, social sciences faculty

LA HORE: Women make it to the key positions of the faculty of behavioral and social sciences for the first time in the history of the Punjab University.
Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has appointed professor of political science Prof Dr Umbreen Javed dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Science.
Departmentsandinstitutesunderthisfacultyarealready headed by women.
Prof DrNoshinaSaleemistheInstituteof Communication Studies director, Dr Raana Malik is the chairperson of Department of Gender Studies, Dr Tahira Jabeen is the chairperson of Department of Social Work while Prof Dr Rubina Zakar is working as the director of Institute of Social and Cultural Studies.
According to the PU Fact Book 2018, the percentage of girl students enrolled in the university was 51pc. In the cadre of lecturers, there are 131 women and and 96 men. A faculty member says the figures show that the women will dominate top positions in future.
Speaking to Dawn, Ms Javed said women were heading all the departments under her.
She said she did not face any problem during her career in the university and she was given the opportunity because she was the senior-most among other faculty members.
Similar is the case with the heads of departments under this faculty, she added.
Ms Nasra Jabeen was the first woman in the PU who rose to the rank of provisional VC in 2018.
