Protest against short gas supply

GUJRANWALA: A number of residents of Kashmir Colony, including women and children, protested on Tuesday against the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) for short gas supply to the locality.

Protesters, led by Raja Nasir, MuhammadSharif, Mahmood Gujar, Mirza Ishaq, Tufail, Naseema Rani and Gulshan, carried banners and placards and shouted slogans against the SNGPL authorities.

They told reporters the gas supplied had been suspended to Kashmir Colony for many days.

They said they were facing problems in preparing food while alternative fuel sources like woods, coal and LPG were expensive.

Several other localities have also faced gas shortage in recent days and they are Fareed Town, Satelite Town, Kachi Pump Wali, Jandiala Baghwala Garjakh, Wahdat Colony, Fageerpura, Rakh Keekranwali, Peoples Colony, Dhullay and other areas.

Students and employees leave homes without breakfast. People said that they approached local political leaders many times but no action was taken yet.SNGPL General Manager Kabir Ahmad said the available gas was being supplied equally to all areas.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 26 human traffickers in a week and also completed 89 inquiries.

FIA Deputy Director Roy Nasrullah told Dawn that teams were formed to arrest human smugglers who were sending people to Greece, Turkey, Iran and other counters illegally. Teams are raiding different parts of the region to arrest the remaining of fenders.

The FIA director added 102 deportees were handed over to the FIA and those were in central jail.

The agency will arrest the agents who sent them abroad illegally.

HELD: The Kamoki City police arrested a couple and two of their accomplices on Tuesday for injuring four people and also recovered weapons f rom them.

According to the reports, Rukhsana Bibi along with his husband Farooq and relatives Yasir and Akbar Booti opened fire on their neighbors leaving Yousuf, his sons Zeeshan, Shakeel and passerby Zain injured.

Kamoki City Station House Officer arrested the suspects.
