LCWU hosts moot on trends in physics

LAHORE: Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) organised a three-day international conference on emerging trends in physics on Tuesday.

The conference was a joint venture of the LCWU Faculty of Science and Technology and the COMSATS Physics department, held at the Iqra Auditorium.

LCWU Physics department chairperson Prof Safia Anjum introduced the theme and the objectives of the conference. She acknowl-edged the value of contributions by sponsors, partners, and participants.

N a t i o n a 1 Institute Of Laser & O p t r o n i e s ( N I L O P ) Director General Prof Manzoor Ikram was the chief guest, who talked about how physics could play a role in meeting global challenges.

On the occasion, a Memorandum o f Understanding (MoU) was also signed betweenNILOP and the LCWU Physics department for promotion of collaborative research and development.

Prof Pawel Kowalczyk from the University of Poland delivered an informative lecture.

The subsequent sessions featured Prof Hakan Ates of Ghazi University, Turkey and M Shahbaz Anwar of the University of Cambridge, UK, who enlightened the audience on topics of thin films, nano particles, and emerging technologies.

The event also featured poster presentations by students and researchers, displaying their innovative projects.

The conference was divided into a series of sessions chaired by Prof Zubaida Yousaf, chairperson of the LCWU Botany department and Prof Bushra Naseem, chairperson of Chemistry department.

Prof Rehana Sharif from UET, Lahore, presented recent developments in condensed matter physics, especially the new materials and their applications.

Khurrum Joya from Intel Islamic University, Madina, Saudi Arabia, presented his work on the role of nano materials in sustainable energy conversion.

Nauman Sarwar Qureshi from GCU, Lahore, emphasised the progress in theoretical physics, particularly in quantum mechanics, which requires further research.

Talks by Shahid Atique, Yasin Naz, and Muhammad Afaq covered various themes, such as solid-state physics and the environmental impacts of advanced materials.

UET: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with a private cable manufacturer to establish a collaborative framework aimed at foster-ing advanced research and creating valuable opportunitiesfor studentsin environmental and electrical engineering disciplines.

The partnership will support students through academic awards, internship programmes, and career opportunities. Topperforming students in electrical engineering will receive Rs100,000. Similarly, a finalyear best design project addressing core sustainability issues in Pakistan will win Rs200,000.

UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Shahid Munir said the partnership reflects a commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry and will provide students with practicalexposure and recognitionfor theirinnovative contributions.

PU: Punjab University`s examinations department has extended the last date for receipt of admission forms and fees for regular, late college, private, improvement division, additional subjects, and special categories candidates of the associate degree of arts/science/commerce, Part-I and II annual examinations, 2025.

According to details, the last date for submission of admission forms with a single fee is Jan 31.

The department also issued the schedule for submission of admission forms for late college candidates of LLB (3-years) Part-II, III, and L LB (5-years) Part-I, II, III, IV, and V supplementary examinations 2024.

The last date for receipt of online admission forms for the said exams with a single fee is Jan 28. Candidates are informed that admission forms will be submitted online only, and no admission form will be received by hand or post.
