KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the summary to set up an 11-member governing body to take decisions and run affairs of the Sindh Building Control Authority, Dawn has learnt.
Earlier, the SBCA director general was running the affairs of the authority, sources said.
Only three of the newly proposed governing body members are from the public (minister, an MPA and a builder / engineer) while the six are bureaucrats.
The composition of the governing body, as shown in the summary, is that the minister of local government and housing and town planning is its chairman and a member of the Sindh assembly (to be nominated by the government) will be its vice chairman and director general of the SBCA will act as its secretary / member.
The rest of the six members are: a) private member from the association of builders or engineers (to be nominated by the government); b) secretary of local government, c) managing director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board; d) DG of the Karachi Development Authority; e) senior director of the Master Plan of SBCA, and, f) municipal commissioner of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
The summary moved by local government secretary Ramzan Awan was signed by the chief minister on Jan 30, 2017 with comments that `law may be vetted and placed before the cabinet`.
The sources said that after legal vetting and approval by the cabinet a bill named the Sindh Building Control Ordinance (Amendment) Act 2016 would be moved in the assembly to get the approval of the assembly.
