Body set up to probe misuse of school funds

KARAK: The district education department has formed a two-member committee to probe the misuse of conditional grant funds given to 33 primary and high schools in Karak.

Sources in the education department told Dawn on Tuesday that deputy commissioner Abid Khan Wazir had sent a list of 33 primary and high schools to the education department where the conditional grant funds meant for provision of basic facilitieswere allegedlymisappropriated, and directed to probe the matter.

Following the directives, district education officer Taous Khan Wazir formed a two-member committee to probe the fund misuse. The committee would submit a report to the DEO in two weeks.

TEACHERS POSTING DEMANDED: People of Andaki and adjoining localities held a protest on Tuesday against the vacant postsofteachersinthelocal primary school, and demanded of the government to appoint teachers to the school without delay.

The residents claimed that the only primary school of the area was without staff, and said the school was closed for two months after the retirement of a senior teacher.

They said they had brought the issue into the notice of the sub-divisional education officer and assis-tant district officer education but they were reluctant to provide staff to the school.

They regretted that the students were going to appear in the annual examination after one month but there was no teacher in the school.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UNDERSTAFFED: District Police Officer Mian Naseeb Jan has said the police department is understaffed and demanded of the provincial government to provide 500 FC personnel to cope with the law and order situation in a better way.

The DPO told reporters here on Tuesday that the people of Karak had been staging protests against the oil and gas exploration companies almost on daily basis, which created a law and order situation. He said there were only 722 police officials and officers who could not handle the situation besides curbing the crime. He said the district needed at least 1,800 personnel.

He said he had written to the IGP to request the home department to provide 500 FC personnel to Karak district to maintain peace in the district.

M O T O R CY CL I S T S KILLED: Two motorcyclists were killed when their bike rammed into an electricity pole in Laghari Rajabkhel area on Tuesday.

Police said Zeeshan and his cousin Shahzaib were going on a motorcycle when it hit a roadside power pylon. They died instantly.
