Scores held in action against kite flyers, sellers

NOWSHERA: In a crackdown on Tuesday, the police arrested dozens of kite flyers and sellers in Nowshera district.

Later, the police presented the violators in court.

Pabbi, Jehangira,Nowshera, Akora Khattak and Ziarat Kaka Sahib are popular for kite flying in spring season.

District police officer Wahid Mehmood had instructed all SHOs and incharge police posts to launch crackdown against kite flyers, sellers and makers of chemical string to eliminate the menace from the society.

In-charge Nowshera Kalan police post Saleem Khan said they had collected 625 kites, 300 roles of chemical string and also arrested several people.

Police also arrested a driver and impounded a pickup laden with kiteswhen he tried to enter Nowshera Kalan. About 4,000 kites and large amount of chemical thread was confiscated from the vehicle.

Similarly, in-charge Manki Sharif police post said the police tore a large number of kites in different shops and warned the kite flyers and sellers of dire consequences if they again indulged in the practice.

The residents appreciated the police crackdown and said it would help stop the kite flying in the coming months.

They said examinations of children were near, but most of them were wasting their precious time flying kites. A doctor said he had stitched nose of a person injured by chemical thread.

He appealed to police to stop the dangerous chemical which is used in making the string. -Correspondent
