Lakki councillors decry slow work on uplift schemes

LAKKI MA RWAT: Members of district council have expressed concern over slow pace of work on uplift schemes and poor law and order situation in Lakki Marwat district.

They expressed these views while speaking at a meeting of the council held at the district headquarters complex, Tajazai, on Tuesday.

District naib nazim Arab Khan presided over the meeting, where district nazim Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel was also in attendance.

`The cancellation of tendering process and delayin issuing work orders to contractors are the main reasons for slowing thepace of uplif t works,` said Ameer Nawaz of JUI-F. He said the council members were made to visit the houses of contractors to convince them to launch work on uplift schemes in their respective localities.

Abdul Ghafoor Khan asked the district government to allocate funds for provision of drinking water to the residents of Takhtikhel union council.

He also demanded provision of sewing machines to women of rural areas to enable them to earn livelihood.

Councillor Maulana Asghar Ali said the rural roads were in deplorable condition and asked the communication and works department to tell the house where they spent funds meant for repairing roads.

`Contrary to the tall claims of provincial government the of ficials of differentdepartments are involved in receiving commissions on uplift schemes,` alleged Maulana Samiullah Mujahid.

Other members expressed concern over poor law and order situation and asked the police to take notice of the excesses low ranking officials were committing with innocent citizens.

`Raids without search warrants and keeping citizens in illegal detention are not acceptable at all,` Waheed Aslam Khan said.

`The station house officers show disrespect to the district councillors when they visit police stations in connection with public complaints,` said Advocate Salahuddin.

A minority member Pitras Maseeh demanded allocation of funds for repair-ing and widening of broken old kachery road in Lakki city. He also demanded repair of the temple which was being used by education department for running a boy`s primary school.

A district councillor from Lakki city Shafgatullah Khan Khoidadkhel asked the government to compensate the floodaffected residents of urban locality. He underlined the need for construction of dykes to protect the urban areas from hazards of flashfloods.

Winding up debate, district nazim said the district government had repaired 19 out of 55 f aulty water supply schemes.

`Under the district annual developmental programme the public sector schools are being equipped with solar power system,` he said.
