Two SHOs detained for releasing drug dealers

LAHORE: The Lahore city police have arrested two station house officers (SHOs) from different police stations over allegations of accepting bribes worth millions andreleasing drug dealers.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) operations Faisal Kamran received complaints against Defence-A SHO Mian Sajjad and Faisal Town SHO Suleman Akbar and a constable Shakir for allegedly taking bribe and releasing drug dealers in their respective areas.

The DIG ordered an inquiry against the both SHOs and constable.

In the first inquiry, SHO Sajjad was found guilty of taking Rs 1.7 million bribe from a drug dealer and releasing him in return.

The DIG ordered registration of case against the SHO under 155-c of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on behalf of the state in the Defence-A police station.

The former SHO was also arrested and would be presented before court for further action.

While in another incident, an SSP operation found Faisal Town SHO Suleman and constable Shakir guilty of taking bribe and releasing another drug dealer.

The DIG ordered registration of cases against both policemen. Faisal Townpolice also registered a case against its former SHO Suleman and constable Shakir under 155-c of the PPC.

Former SHO Sajjad was also arrested while raids were being conducted to arrest SHO Suleman and constable Shakir.

DIG Kamran said that the policemen were suspended from service and cases were also registered against them in the same police station in which they were serving as SHOs.Earlier, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana chaired a review meeting on Friday, outlining an `aggressive` strategy to combat drug trafficking, street crimes and hazardous kite-flying activities across Lahore.

To address rising street crimes, the CCPO directed SSP (Operations) to intensify operations against organised begging networks and ensure heightened vigilance in crime-prone areas.

TheInvestigationWingwasinstructed to streamline coordination with the Public Prosecution Department to expedite pending court cases (challans) and reduce legal backlogs.

The meeting was also attended by DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed, SSP (Operations) Tassawar Iqbal, alongside SPs, ASPs, and station-level officers from Civil Lines and City Divisions.
