Two Elite Force conunandos injured in shootout with POs

RAWALPINDI: Two Elite Force commandos were injured, one of them critically in a shootout with proclaimed offenders during a police raid in Chontra area on Friday.

The encounter between the police and proclaimed offenders took place when a police party conducted a raid to arrest two suspects wanted by the police in double-murder case. The two murder suspects Farooq and Azam had been wanted by police since 2011, police said.

On seeing the police party, the POs started firing on the police party which left two Elite Force commandos, Mohammad Sohail ASI and Shahbaz Riazinjured.

Theinjuredwere shifted tothe District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), while the reinforcement of police was called in to arrest the escapees. Later, the SP Sadar Division visited the scene of the crime.

SI Liaquat Khan of Chontra police lodged an FIR under section 7-Anti-Terrorism-Act and other relevant sections of the law against five persons, including two POs saying that a police raiding party with a section of Elite Force, led by in-charge Sohail Mustafa set out to arrest two proclaimed offenders who were wanted by the police involving in a double murder case registered in 2011.

He further said that the police party surrounded the house of POs and knocked at the main gate. He said as Mohammad Farooq opened the gate, he started firing on police party with Kalashnikovs which resulted in the injuries to ASI Sohail Mustafa and constable Shahbaz Riaz .

Police said that the two murder suspects were wanted by Chontra police in a double murder case of Azhar Iqbal and his wife Muneza Bibi.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani reached the hospital to inquire after ASI Mohammad Sohail who was injured during the raid in the Chontra area.

The CPO met the family of the injured ASI, expressed his sympathy and talked to the daughter.

CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani said that the super officers and jawans are the valuable assets of the Rawalpindi police against criminal elements.
