ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday granted bail to the former chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Farkhand Iqbal, in multi-millions plots allotment scandal.
Special trial court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on February 28 rejected the post-arrest bail of Iqbal and his co-accused Mohammad Shafiq, a deputy director of the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF).
The FIA on January 6 arrested Iqbal in connection with the allotment of 12 plots of Rs360 million to different people in sector I-8 of Islamabad.
According to the challan prepared by the FIA, former CDA chairman allotted these plots without observing legal procedure and after taking illegal gratifications from the recipients.
The challan alleged that Shafiq a co-accused in this matter abetted in the crime and issued allotment letters to the non-entitled persons. The trial against former CDA chairman would start after submission of the challan, he added.
Justice Qureshi while granting post arrest bail to Iqbal directed him to submit Rs2m surety bonds and two personal sureties.
