Gold crown for Abida on first hometown performance in 30 years

LARKANA: Music aficionados of Larkana paid a standing ovation to Abida Parveen when she performe d in her hometown on Sunday night after 30 years.

She was presented with a 10-tola gold crown at a function held under the auspices of the Sindh Fankar Welfare Organisation attended by thousands of her admirers near the police training school where according to her wish entry was kept free.

Programme organisers Jawed Brohi , Atta Khichi and Zahid Abbasi decorated her with 10-tola gold crown to pay tribute to her service to music, particularly to Sufi music.

She enthralled the crowd with her typical Sufi-style performance and people were seen moving their heads to her songs. She sang hve songs which the people of Larkana watched live through local cable operators.It was quite unusual that when she was performing, her son, daughter, brother and close relatives were present in the crowd, applauding her wonderful performance.

A huge firework display was presented when the organizers were decorating her with the gold crown, adding beauty to the show.

The spell-bound audience showered uninterrupted appreciation on her tremendous performance and Sufi tunes kept them absorbed In her brief speech, Abida said she was proud to be here after a long time where the Sindh Fankar Welfare Organisation took a bold but difficult step for the service of Sufism. She said Sindh was the door to Sufism.

Ahmed Mughul, Tufail Sanjrani, Shahila Gul, Ashique Nizamani, Marvel, Mumtaz Molai, Sanwal group and other singers also performed in the show while Sohrab Soomro, Ali Gul Malah and Bakhshan Mehranvi were announcers.
