BAHAWALPUR: Governor Baleeghur Rehman inaugurated 10 new buses which have been added to the existing fleet of the Islamia University.

The governor also opened the third phase of the distribution of electric wheelchairs among the disabled students here on Friday. He gave away wheelchairs to the deserving 20 IUB students.

Addressing the ceremony along with IUB VC Prof Dr Athar Mehboob, the governor said during the third phase 250 wheelchairs would be given to the disabled students of public sector universities across Punjab. Earlier, he said, 350 wheelchairs were distributed in other provinces.

Talking about the development budgets of the universities, the governor recalled that PML-N had always given priority to higher education in the country and during its rule it increased higher education budget from Rs 34 billion to 120 billion.

WHEAT: The district administration claimed to have so far seized 872,450kg wheat in its drive against smuggling.

Presiding over a meeting of the officials of food department and other related government departments, DC Zaheer Anwar Jappa said 29 FIRs were registered against those involved in the smuggling during the last week.

PHA: The Parks and Horticulture Authority(PHA) in coordination with the department of public relations launched on Friday city`s beautification drive under the Eid package. Work on the renovation of Children`s Park has also been started. Correspondent
