Ex-Sindh University VC remembered

HYDERABAD: Sindh University faculty, students and employees attended a programme held on Monday to mark the 57th death anniversary of its founder vice chancellor Allama I.I. Kazi.

The event was the last feature of the `SU Founder`s Week` observed at the university.

Incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman Khoumbhati and other faculty members visited grave of the late Kazi to lay floral wreath on it and offer fateha.

At the anniversary programme, speakers paid homage to Allama Kazi and described him as a great philosopher, academician and follower of great Sufi Saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

They highlighted Kazi`s valuable contributions to philosophy, education and Islamic ideology.

They said Kazi was known for his deep understanding of philosophy, education, natural science, social science and comparative religion.They said that Allama Kazi`s philosophical knowledge surpassed that of many of his contemporaries. VC Khoumbhati said that in his student life, he had attended a programme on Allama Kazi`s anniversary in 1985. The VC praised Kazi`s mastery in diverse fields.

During the event, plans were announced to hold an international conference on philosophy. It was also decided that the late Kazi`s bungalow would be reclaimed and transformed into a museum to showcase his personalbelongings.

Formercaretakerfederaleducation minister Madad Ali Sindhi praised Allama Kazi for his intellectual contributions andadvocacyforwomen`srights.

The participants enjoyed a mesmerising performance of Bhitai`s poetry by Dr Zulfiqar Ali Khan.

Others who attended the programme included pro-VCs Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah and Prof Dr Misbah Bibi Qureshi.
