PARACHINAR: An official of the Kurram Agency administration and his guard were martyred when unidentified attackers targeted their car on Sunday.

Officials said that political moharrar Sarfaraz Hussain was travelling by car in the Olay area in the lower Kurram Agency along with his guard from a paramilitary force, Mumtaz Hussain, when the vehicle came under fire. The attackers fled the scene after the shooting.

The banned Lashkar-iJhangvi militant organisation claimed responsibility for the attack.

The political administration launched a search operation in the area and picked up some tribesmen under the territorial and collective responsibility laws of Frontier Crime Regulation.

Their names were not disclosed.

Mr Hussain was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in the Olay area.

Family sources said he left behind six daughters and his wife to mourn his death.
