PAID PARKING: The current situation in Lahore`s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area regarding parking is quite concerning. Every open space has been turned into a paid parking lot. This is an egregious display of greed and an attempt to extract money from the residents. In contrast, other premier residential areas in Lahore donotcharge theirresidentsfor parking except a few specific areas.
There are vast open areas available for free parking. If DHA Lahore wants to remain a leading residential locality, it must review its policies regarding paid parking. This would not only benefit the residents, but also improve the overall image of the area.
Naveela Sajjad Lahore INEFFECTUAL POSITION: This refers to the letter `Presidential power` (March 13), which rightly pointed out that after the cancellation of presidential power to dissolve the National Assembly under Clause 58(2)( B), the office of the president of Pakistan is left with no executive power at all. The office now is the equivalent of the constitutional monarchy in England. It would make sense to abolish this ineffectual position and save taxpayers` money. At the very minimum, it the ofñce anditsbudgetshouldrenectthe position it has in the overall scenario.
Khayyam Durrani Karachi ANOMALIES: This is with reference to the article `First resolution` (April 28), which seems to have some anomalies. For instance, the article says that the Sindh Chapter of Muslim League had passed the resolution in October 1938, but a few paragraphs later it referred to an interview Sir Abdullah Haroon had with Pir Ali Mohammad Rashidi in April 1935 (three years earlier), in which Rashidi said that once the resolution was passed, `Haroon went into virtual retirement` The article also mentions Haroon saying that his goal was Pakistan, which was a term coined in 1933 but hardly used by Muslim League leaders until after 1940.
