PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor GhulamAliandCaretaker Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan visited building of the Radio Pakistan here the other day.
The building was torched during violent protests allegedly by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers against arrest of their leader and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday.
The governor and chief minister also visited Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar and enquired after the Radio Pakistan employees, who sustained injuries during the violent protests.
They strongly condemned the violent protests, which caused damage to public and private properties and expressed their resolve to bring all the people involved in the violence to justice.
Mr Ali alleged that workers of a political party torched public and private properties only to protect a person involved in corruption.
In a statement issued after his visit, the governor said that May 9 would be remembered as `dark day` in the country`s history. He directed police toobtain video footage recorded by cameras installed on different buildings in the provincial and identify all the people involved in riots. He appealed to people to help police in identifying the culprits.
He said that political activists never harmed state installations but workers of a political party looted and set ablaze public and private properties. `Such acts need to be discouraged and all those involved in it should be dealt with accordingly, said the governor.
He said that those found guilty of violence on May 9 should be given exemplary punishment so that nobody dared to damage public and private properties in future.
The chief minister told journalists that the issue of restoration of the Radio Pakistan Peshawar building would be taken up with the federal government. He said that provincial government would utilise all the available resources for resuming services of the Radio Pakistan Peshawar.
He said that more than 900 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in violent protests where some protesters were arrested on the spot and the rest would soon be held and brought to justice.
