LAKKI MARWAT: Two terrorists were killed and three others injured in an exchange of fire with police in the Miryan area of Bannu district on Wednesday, the police said.

An official said that the exchange of fire erupted when a police party led by district police officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi reached the area on information about the presence of terrorists there.

He said that the commandos of Quick Response Force, Rapid Response Force and Counter-Terrorism Department backed by armoured personnel carriers and security forces also assisted police in the fight against terrorists.

The official said the terrorist opened fire on policemen when they noticed their presence, leading to a fierce gun battle. `Later regional Police officer Sajjad Khan also reached the venue and commanded the operation,` he added.

The official said during the exchange of fire, two terrorists were eliminated and their three accomplices were injured. He said a cop, identified as Mohsin Khan, was also injured in the clash and was transported to District Headquarters Hospital immediately.

`During the gunfight, the terrorists used students of a government girls` school, who were on way to their homes after closing time, as human shields and managed to flee the scene,` he said.

The official claimed policemen stopped firing when they saw school students passing by the venue of crossfire to prevent any loss to them. He said the law enforcers cordoned off the area and launched a house-to-house search for the fleeing terrorists.
