LARKANA: A man threw his wife into Dadu canal near Naudero and prevented other people from rescuing her until she apparently drowned, police said on Tuesday.
They said that Shafgat Detho and Saira Bano, 18, riding a motorcycle left their house located in Nazar Detho village to visit the Naudero Hospital for the woman`s immunisation as she had afour-month pregnancy. However, the man stopped the two-wheeler on the Pir Mataro bridge above Dadu canal about half-a-kilometre away and asked her to disembark. He then pushed her into the canal, SHO Mohammed Mangrio of the Naudero police station said.
He said the woman raised a hue and cry attracting the attention of several shepherds, present nearby, who rushedto the spot but the suspect asl(ed them not to interfere as it was a matter between him and his wife. He stood there until she drowned, the SHO said, adding that the suspect drove away after ensuring that she could not be fished out alive.
Efforts were under way to fish out the woman till late in the evening.-Correspondent
