ISLAMABAD: As part of the ongoing partnership, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government have stressed the need to improve the rule of law, employment, youth engagement and economic development in order to achieve sustainable development in the region. The UNDP and the KP government agreed to work on a procurement project to develop campsites in the province’s most scenic locations.
The project will promote ecotourism and employ the local youth by establishing camping villages with a total outlay of Rs300 million. The UNDP will provide technical support and contribute $50,000 to provide business management training to 500 youths.
UN Assistant Secretary General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of the UNDP, Haoliang Xu, concluded his four-day official visit to Pakistan on Wednesday after a series of meetings in Peshawar with government officials. The meetings reiterated support for community resilience and rehabilitation of Federally Administered Tribal Areas’ temporarily displaced people, and other uplift issues.—Reporter
