PESH AWAR: The city police on Wednesday denied social media reports of a police official implicating an Islamia College University (ICU) teacher earlier arrested on charges of possessing drugs.
Police had arrested ICU assistant professor Bashir Ahmed on Tuesday and recovered 20 grams of meth from his possession; however, later rumors started doing rounds on the social media that the academician had a spat with a police official after a traffic accident.
However, a city police spol(esperson denied the reports saying police recovered arms and drugs from the teacher`s possession and acted against him under the law.
He said SHO Regi Model Town Shahinshah Khan had arrested the accused at a snapchecking point and search of professor`s vehicle had produced 20 grams of meth, 50 grams of hashish and two pistols and rounds.
He said after the arrest reports started doing rounds on the social media, accusing the police officer of implicating the teacher in drugs case. He said the accused was arrested earlier in 2001 under the 16 MPO and other cases twice.
Also, the ICU Teaching Staff Association executive body held an emergency meeting and declared the episode as unfortunate.
A statement issued here said an individual`s actions should not be linked with an institution and the profession.
`Media trial of the accused on the basis of mere allegations should immediately be stopped,` it said. It also demanded an independentinguiry ofthe episode.
