Gadoon workers demand salary before Eid

SWABI: Workers belonging to various units in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate (GAIE) and other industries in the district on Wednesday demanded payment of current month`s salary before Eidul Fitr.

The federal and provincial governments have announced that the public sector employees across the country would get their salary on June 20 as Eidul Fitr falls in the last week of the ongoing month.

However, the Gadoon Estate workers said the track record of GAIE industrialists, except a few textile mills, showed that they always paid workers salary quite late.

The workers told this scribe that they had not even received the salary of May, saying they were not sure to get the salary of June before Eid.

The workers said that they would be shown the door like previously if it was 1(nown to the industrialists that they (workers) were highlighting the salary issue with the mediapersons.

A worker on condition of anonymity said that entrepreneurs needed to be mindful of the woes of workers, adding the industrialists should take pity on them and make their Eid happy by releasing the salary on time.

Meanwhile, leaders of Gadoon Labour Federation said that it was responsibility of the provincial government to bind the industrialists to follow the government policy on auspicious festivals like Eid.

Noor Mohammad Jadoon, the federation`s president, said the Gadoon industrialists always indulged in exploitation of workers. He demanded that implementation of laws should be ensured in letter and spirit to protect workers` rights.

Similarly, Pakistan Workers Federation leaders also demanded of the federal and KP governments to ensure that the industry workers were paid salary well before Eid so they could buy necessary items.Correspondent
