Karak journalists protest colleague`s murder

KAR AK: Local journalists staged a protest demonstration outside the Karak Press Club against the coldblooded murder of senior journalist of Haripur district Bal(hshish Ilahi and demanded security to the media personnel across the country.

They also demanded the arrest of his killers. The protest was led by president of press club Malik Abid Khattak, who expressed concern over the growing violence against journalists`community.

He said journalists through their pen contributed a lot for development of the country and exposing the evils of society, but regretted that today they were feeling insecure in their own country.

Mr Khattak alleged that the governments had made tall claims of ensuring security of mediapersons, and asked it take practical steps in that regard.

He said the attack on Bakhshish Ilahi was attack on the freedom of expression. The journalists expressed sympathy with the bereaved family of the slain journalist and prayed for his departed soul.

They demanded of the government to announce martyred pack-age for the family of the deceased journalist.

WITHHELD SALARY: Employees of Karak Development Authority (KDA) complained about non-payment of their salaries for last eight months and set a week`s deadline for the release of amount, or they would come onto the roads.

The demand was made at a protest meeting of the employees association held here on Wednesday with its president Mohammad Fayaz in the chair.

The participants claimed that the KDA was on verge of bankruptcy, saying the employees were facing acute financial crunch due to nonpayment of salaries.

They said they had now decided to launch a protest movement for the release of their salaries. The employees said that schooling of their children had been affected, and demanded of the provincial minister of local government, secretary local government, deputy commissioner Karak and local parliamentarians to play their role in early release of their salaries so they could celebrate the Eidul Fitr with honour and dignity.
