Two robbers `killed in firing by accomplices`

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two robbers were killed in firing reportedly by their accomplices here on Tuesday.

A district police spokesperson claimed that two members of a car snatching gang were on a physical remand issued by a court. A city police party was taking Usman Joya of Haroonabad (Bahawalnagar) and Shahzad Yousaf Masih of Karore Lal Eisan (Layyah) to recover a snatched car by a police van. Near Chak 324JB Paira, four unidentified suspects attacked the police van and opened fire in a bid to get them released. As a result of the firing by their accomplices, they received multiple bullets and succumbed to their injuries at the DHQ hospital.

Police claimed that both were wanted in crime cases in Multan,Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur,Khanewal,Muzaffargarh and Lodhran districts.

PROTEST: A woman and scores of her relatives belonging to Chiniot staged on Tuesday a protest demonstration at Faisalabad`s Zila Council Chowk against the police for not registering a rape case against a man who allegedly assaulted her some 10 days ago.

They were carrying banners inscribed with the demand that the Faisalabad regional police officer take action against local police for not registering her first information report. They told the media that the medicalexaminationhad confirmed the rape but police were allegedly backing the suspect. The protest resulted in traffic blockade. Later, the police officials managed to disperse the crowd by assuring them that the case would be registered atthe earliest.

CONDOLENCE: Jamaat-i-Islami central emir Sirajul Haq visited Jhang on Tuesday and offered fateha for the late wife of JI leader Prof Gohar Siddiqi at his residence.

Former [defunct] Sipah Sahaba chief Moulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi, district JI emir Mehr Fareed Maghiana and other local Jamaat office-bearers were also present on the occasion.

Talking to the media, Siraj said the government was implementing `American agenda` while the price hike had made lives of people miserable. He said owing to joblessness the people were unable to get their children admitted to educational institutions. He announced that the Jamaat would start a train march to Islamabad against price hike and interest-based banking system from June 25.
