RAHIM YAR KHAN: An elderly man died due to suffocation in the of fice of sub-registrar where he had come for mutation of land on Tuesday.

Reports said Ahmed Bakhsh, 75, a resident of Basti Bari, arrived at the sub-registrar office with his sons for transfer of a piece of land in their name.

He felt uneasy and his sons took him out of the office where he breathed his last.

The incident created an uproar at the office where District Bar Association President Basharat Hundel came and exchanged harsh words with sub-registrar Liaquat Bhatti.

He told reporters that he had requested the assistant commissioner to ensure proper facilities for the visitors but to no avail. He said the deputy commissioner and the sub-registrar were responsible for the death of Ahmed Bakhsh as there was no ventilation, cold water and air cooler.

The district administration spokesperson said the family of the deceasedhad submitted an affidavit of his natural death.

He said Mr Hundal was levelling baseless allegations on the administration because he wanted that only lawyers would declare authorised persons for the completion of mutations of land.

LUMPY SKIN DISEASE: The lumpy skin disease in cows has reached Rahim Yar Khan after affecting the livestock in the neighbouring districts of Sindh.

The livestock farmers in southern villages and owners of herds have complained about the disease to the livestock department.

According to Additional Director Livestock Dr Tahir Gulzar, there were 772 cases of lumpy skin disease till last week in the district and 600 of the cattle had recovered. He said the mortality rate among the local breed cows was only 2pc whereas as it was 4.5pc in imported breed cows.

He said the main reason of increasing cases was that farmers were not isolating the cows from other livestock. He said the district administration had decided to make vigilance committees at village level to report the cases through a helpline to overcome the disease.
