ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has approached Special Court for Anti-Corruption, seeking acquittal in a graft case.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has accused Mr Chaudhry of facilitating a private housing society in Jhelum by using his influence as minister.

In his application, Mr Chaudhry submitted that the petitioner was a politician and had served as the federal minister for information and broadcasting, minister for science and technology and minister for law and parliamentary affairs during the PTl government.

`He [petitioner] is targeted on political basis by the prosecution at the behest of the sitting government that is hell-bent to convict the petitioner by hook or by crook by roping him in false and frivolous cases. It is not out of place to mention that the petitioner has been implicated in more than three dozen false and fabricated cases other than the instant case,` the petition said.

`Despite the lapse of several months, the prosecution has failed to submit a challan of the case and [is] just lingering on proceedings of the case,` the petitioner said.
