SUKKUR: The Third Additional Sessions Judge of Mirpur Mathelo has ordered registration of an FIR against Pannu Aqil DSP Liaquat Abbasi, Dadloi SHO Shaukat Arain and four police personnel for allegedly wounding a citizen in what was described as an encounter about a month ago.

The area police had claimed that a suspected criminal, Jam Liaquat Murnas, was shot, wounded and arrested in an encounter near Bago Dara bridge in Mirpur Mathelo town of Ghotki district. They accused Murnas of being involved in the kidnapping of two women.

However, the victim appeared to be a noble citizen and a notable of the Murnas clan, which contested the police claim and filed an application in the coun seeking a probe.

A follow-up inquiry into the matter found the police claim false.

After hearing the applicant and prosecution, the judge on Monday ordered registration of an FIR against the two police officers, along with their four subordinates involved in the encounter.

The section relating to kidnapping [of Murnas] was ordered to be inserted in the FIR.
