This is with reference to the report `Non-filers to pay 7.5pc tax on power bills above Rs25,000` (Aug 7). This imposition has overlooked an important reality. It is a common practice for men in our society to register houses in the name of their spouses to make them feel secure and comfortable, but the bills are paid by their tax-filing husbands. As the spouses are simply `housewives` with no income of their own, they file no tax returns. The Federal Board of Revenue should take this reality into account and allow necessary relief.
