RAHIM YAR KHAN: The girl students of the Government Elementary School, Jampur, along with their parents, on Saturday protested against their `expulsion` by the district administration.

Eighty-four students of classes 1 to 8 of the school blocked Khanpur-Zahirpir Road, about 62 kilometres from here, to protest the order of expulsion by Deputy District Officer Education Chaudhry Muhammad Akram because the girl students were studying in the institution meant for boys. Theprotesters said their examination was around the corner and removal at this stage would affect their studies.

DDO Education Chaudhry Muhammad Akram said he had held a meeting with parents of 30 children to discuss the plan to shift girls of 6 to 8 classes to nearby Government Girls High School, Kotla Pathan, and they signed the agreement.

He claimed that Jampur Kotla union council chairman Pathan Musharaf Jatoi appreciated his decision and it was government`s policy that co-education would be discouraged from classes 6 to 8.
