AS the nation mourned the death of Nabiha Chauhdry on Oct 15, there were a few who considered it nothing more than `just an incident`. One of them is the director general of the Audit and Accounts, Civil Services Academy, Lahore, Pakistan.
The DG phoned at 5.15pm on Oct 15 to ask if I was Nabiha`s mother. On my confirmation, he said without a word of sympathy that Nabiha had died due to a fire in her room.
He appeared to be in a hurry as if he was trying to get rid of the family or else his negligence due to which the accident had occurred would get exposed etc.
My question is if this is the attitude of the most literate (bureaucrat) in our country, is he capable of managing the academy and safeguarding the precious lives there whose safety is his responsibility? Simeen Saleem Karachi
