LAHORE: Announcing a reserved verdict, the Lahore High Court on Monday allowed a petition of Syed Ali Musa Gilani, son of former premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, against inclusion of his name in the exit control list (ECL).

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza directed the interior ministry to remove the name of the petitioner from the ECL.

Musa through his counsel had pleaded that the interior ministry had put his name on the ECL on May 15, 2013, on the basis of mere allegations against him.

The counsel said the Supreme Court had granted bail to the petitioner in the said case and had not issuedany directions to put his name on the ECL.

The counsel pointed out that the petitioner previously visited abroad with the court`s permission and returned as per his undertaking.

He said the petitioner was unable to travel abroad for educational and business purposes due to his name on theECL.

He asked the court to issue directions to the interior ministry to immediately remove the name of the petitioner from the ECL.

The ministry`s lawyer had opposed the petition pleading that the petitioner could flee the country if his name was removed from the ECL. Justice Mirza had reserved verdict on Nov 10.
