`No discord on registration of madressahs`

TAXILA: Federal minister for religious affairs and interfaith harmony Sardar Mohammad Yousuf here on Monday said there was complete unanimity among ulema of almost all schools of thought on the registration of seminaries.

He was talking to newsmen after visiting a madressah at Model Town, Wah Cantonment.

He said the registration process would be carried out by the ministry of interior in coordination with the provincial governments. The departments concerned have worked actively on the madressah reforms and prepared a pro forma for the registration of the seminaries across the country, he added.

In reply to a question, the minister said: `A special curriculum is being devised for the seminaries. The ministry of religious affairs with the help of the education authorities is devising the curriculum which would meet both the needs of religious and worldly education.

He said the government was launching a number of public welfare projects besides tackling the issues of terrorism and law and order in various parts of the country. He said operation Zarb-i-Azb, which was launched soon after the PML-N came to power, had been a big success.

He said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would usher in a new era of prosperity and development across the country. Worl( on various projects under CPEC has already been initiated, he added.

In reply to a question, the minister said ef forts were underway to ensure an environment in which the followers of different schools of thought and religions could work for the development of the country. He said his ministry successfully persuaded ulema of different schools of thought to devise a uniform prayers` timing in the federal capital. `Soon we would implement this system all over the country.

Responding to another question, he said the ministry was in contact with the embassy of Saudi Arabia to ensure the payment of compensation to the heirs of those who lost their lives in the crane accident in Makkah.
