ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan University Basic Pay Scale (BPS) Teachers Association (APUBTA) on Wednesday staged a sit-in outside the Higher Education Commission (HEC) offices to press the regulatory body to resolve their service-related issues.
The protesting teachers, who came from various universities across the country, raised slogans to highlight their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, APUBTA President Dr Samiur Rehman, General Secretary Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr Batool Atta, Dr Manzoor and others said all BPS teachers wanted immediate approval of promotion policy.
Later, on assurances from the HEC that they will look into their issues, the teachers called off their sit-in and announced that if their demands were not met they would return after a month.
Earlier, the protesting teachers said in other cadres` teachers got promotion well on time, but there was no such policy to deal with cases of BPS for providing timely promotions to teachers. Similarly, they said there was no service structure of teachers working under BPS. There are two categories of teachers in universities BPS and Tenure Track System (TTS). Staff Reporter
