NAROWAL: Police claimed on Wednesday to have killed two robbers in as many `encounters`.
Ahmedabad police received information about a robbery incident with citizen Muhammad Idris near village Memowali. Station House Officer Muhammad Nasir Farhad along with a police contingent rushed to the spot. As soon as the robbers saw the police, they opened fire. According to social media reports, police started chasing the suspects.
According to police, during a `shootout`, suspect Muhammad Sohail alias Soheela was found injured. Police claimed that Sohail was injured in firing by his accomplices and succumbed to his wounds.
In another incident, Zafarwal police on a tipoff set up a picket to nab suspects who opened fire and took shelter at village Bil Shahan. When the police surrounded the sus-pects, one of their accomplices Imtiaz alias Majnoon got killed in firing by their accomplices who managed their escape.
Ahmedabad police took the body of Sohail into custody and shifted it to Narowal DHQ hospital for autopsy. Zafarwal police shifted the body of Imtiaz to THQ hospital.
According to police sources, armed robbers had stopped a car near Ada Siraj on Muridke Road on Dec 12 and made off with gold ornaments and cash from women and injured a man on resistance.
Five days ago, the suspects had shot dead a person and injured three others during a robbery at a medical store after which locals had lodged a strong protest.
Attempts were made to contact Narowal DPO Hafiz Wahid Mahmood on the of fice landline and his official mobile phone, but no response was received.
District police PRO Aitzaz Bashir was also contacted, but he refused to say anything.
