KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police claimed to have arrested two suspected militants belonging to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ).
The CTD claimed that the held suspects were planning to carry out an attack with `explosives and petrol bombs` on a Rohri-bound train carrying people belonging to another sect.
In a press release issued on Thursday, a CTD spokesperson said that Mohammed Ashraf alias AchuandZeeshanHameed alias Riaz were arrested in a raid and a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosive material was recovered from them.
The CTD alleged that both the suspects got training in Afghanistan and they were part of a sleeper cell of the outlawed sectarian outfit.
During interrogation, the suspects also revealed that they had planned to kidnap a fruit trader for ransom from interior Sindh. They planned to move the trader to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They said that they wanted to spend the ransom money for the sale/purchase of equipment for militancy.
The CTD claimed that they were expert in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
