THIS is apropos the letter regarding DHA property taxes (Jan 12). It is also a matter of serious concern that there needs to be a consistency in the property tax rates applied on civilians residing in the cantonment areas in Karachi.

The Malir Cantonment Board kept a revision of tax for fiscal 2018-19 pending for one complete year on one pretext or the other. Then it summarily applied a 100 per centincreasein the property tax backdated for recoveries, which is not the case for any other cantonment area in Karachi.

No justification has been provided for this despite written requests.

Itis unfair that a unilateraland arbitrary doubling of property tax has been imposed just to maximise tax revenues by targeting civilian residents alone.

Any increase in taxes should be reasonable and apply equally across all cantonment areas. Why this discrimination? Zia Hashmi Karachi
